The ICC T20 World Cup Qualifiers will be hosted in Zimbabwe July 9th -17th in Bulawoyo. In the preliminaries, there are eight nations pooled in two groups of four with Uganda facing familiar foes Hong Kong, Netherlands and PNG in group B.

According to the ICC Cricket website, “the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 will see the world's best cricketers from 16 international teams clash in 45 matches across seven host cities, bringing people of all ages and backgrounds together for a celebration of cricket and culture – from 16 October to 13 November 2022”.

Uganda faces an uphill task given that it goes into the tournament as the minnows, ranked second lowest of the eight nations.

Cranes coach Lawrence Mahatlane says the dream of reaching the World Cup is alive.

“We have set our KPI’s for different formats and I believe the boys are adjusting well to the different format. We have worked hard the whole year in anticipation of this busy schedule so the key is to make sure we are fresh. The dream of reaching the World Cup is alive and we believe that we can make it come true”, he said.

Mahatlane replaced injured Deus Muhumuza with Roger Mukasa and Bilal Hassun replaces Emmanuel Hasahya as the only changed to the team that featured in the ICC League B tournament in Kampala.
