Jordan has revealed that he gave James his number but James “never called," Jordan said. "I mean, he may have called a couple of times, but nothing to the magnitude of Kobe [Bryant]."
I gave Lebron my number, but he never ever called - Michael Jordan
LeBron James and Michael Jordan are two of the best players to ever play the game of basketball, but they are also two vastly different players and men.
Kobe Bryant, Jordan revealed, and he grew close as Jordan became Bryant's mentor during his rise to stardom.
LeBron, on the other hand, never reached out to him and Jordan understands why.
LeBron is more a Magic Johnson than a Jordan
Jordan accepts that he will not be the mentor to LeBron that he was for Kobe because Kobe played like him, while LeBron plays like Magic Johnson.
"He should call Magic Johnson," Jordan said. "His basketball talent is more Magic Johnson than Michael Jordan.”
In playing style, Magic Johnson is indeed closer to James.
Even before James stepped foot in the National Basketball Association (NBA), Johnson was the player James was often compared to.
Conversely, Jordan and Kobe were known for their brilliant scoring ability, which came with slight builds, both the exact same height at 1.98 m.
Their fancy plays were also similar.
While Johnson and James are excellent with the ball in their hands.
They are both big men, Magic Johnson was the tallest point guard in league history when he came into the NBA. He was 2.06 m and so is James.
Like Johnson, James plays with the Los Angeles Lakers.
Bad idea?
Jordan offering to mentor James the same way he did with Bryant was probably not a good idea.
Still, basketball legend Shaquille O'Neal sees things differently.
"He's a mixture of Michael, Shaq and Magic," O'Neal said while speaking of James.
"Shaq, because he's bigger and stronger than everybody. Michael because he can score whenever he feels like it. And Magic because he does a great job getting everybody else involved. He's been like that his whole career. Even in high school. I knew he was a special guy in high school.”
Although Shaq does make sense, Jordan would surely stick to his own guns and disagree.
