The World Athletics Championships 2022, Oregon, in Eugene, in Hayward Field at the University of Oregon could be Uganda’s finest ensemble of talents across the track and filed competitions over the years.

“The first team we have is 17 athletes and 5 officials for World Athletics Championships Oregon in the USA. 15-24th of July. The second group will be of 85 athletes and 45 officials for Birmingham Commonwealth Games in England”, he said.

Buoyed with confidence, Uganda’s team has high expectations especially with a host of talents like Joshua Cheptegei, Jacob Kiplimo, Peruth Chemutai, Winnie Nanyondo, Halima Nakaayi, and athletes with lots to prove like Kisa Stephen, Torsas Orogot, Chelimo Oscar, among others hoping for a podium finish.
Marathon
Kiprop Jackson, Musobo and Chemonges Felix will represent Uganda in the 42 Km marathon. The marathon will be out to emulate the heroics of Stephen Kiprotich.
Long distance

Cheptegei currently holds world records in both the 5000m and 10,000m, and holds world best in the 15 kilometres road race and he will be joined by Kiplimo Jacob in 10,000m, Kisa Stephen 10,000m, while Chelimo Oscar and Maru Peter 5000m race the 5,000m. Musagala Ronald 1,500m.
In women’s team; Chesang Stella will represent in 10,000, Chebet Esther in 5000m and Peruth Chemutai in 3000m steeplechase.
Middle distance
Reigning world champion Halima Nakaayi will be out to defend her crown in 800m.
