Uganda U-20 qualify for 2023 AFCON
Uganda Hippos have qualified for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Egypt.
Skipper Isma Mugulusi and Roger Torach netted in the second half of the game to gift the Hippos a second consecutive appearance at the tournament.
Torach opened scoring in the 53rd minute and Mugulusi doubled the advantage in the 78th minute to crash the hopes of the host.
The result means Uganda will face South Sudan in the CECAFA Zonal Championships finals whereby the two finalists will represent the region at the AFCON tournament.
South Sudan beat Ethiopia 4-2 on spot kicks to progress to the finals following a 2-2 draw.
Uganda Hippos had a fantastic tournament at the previous U-20 AFCON finals in Mauritania where the team made it up to the finals. However, the Uganda Hippos lost in the finals but the team that made it to the finals are reaping from the fruits.
A number of top players from the team have since earned contracts with several clubs in Europe and America.
