Ronaldo carried Portugal for 16 years - Reactions as Goncalo Ramos nets HAT TRICK in 6-1 thriller

Unlikely hero for Portugal, Goncalo Ramos started ahead of veteran forward Cristiano Ronaldo in the round of 16 clash against Switzerland.

Goncalo Ramos stole the show at the Lusail.

Having played only 33 minutes for Portugal, Ramos bagged a hat trick silencing doubters and repaying the faith coach Fernando Santos placed in him.

He got off the mark just in the 17th minute delivering a devastating screamer past Sommer to find the back of the net. It was only his first-ever goal for Portugal and hardly did the world expect a hat trick!

Veteran defender Pepe made a case for himself doubling Portugal’s advantage just before halftime with a header past Sommer.

After the break, Ramos would get his second goal with a fantastic flick past Sommer at the near post before Guerreiro scored another with leathered high across Sommer and into the roof.

Benfica forward Ramos got his hat trick with a clever ball above Sommer’s dive.

Rafael made it 6 in added time to record a statement victory for Portugal.

Switzerland would only manage a consolation goal.
