Morocco make World Cup history as they beat Canada to storm knock outs
Morocco is the first African nation to top a World Cup group since Nigeria in 1998 as they beat Canada 2-1 on Thursday.
The North Africans found the back of the net just four minutes onto the clock with Hakim Ziyech finding the back of the net Youssef En-Ne syri doubled the advantage in the 23rd minute to fire Morocco to a comfortable 2-0 lead.
Ziyech took advantage of Borjan’s huge mistake and the experienced star finished off with a delicate composure. He played the ball directly to the Chelsea forward who lofted the ball over his head.
En-Nesyri added with an emphatic strike beyond a helpless Borjan. He outmuscled and outpaced Canada's flailing backline. The striker got his head down and motored towards goal before firing low and hard.
Canada would pull on back after a deflection off Nayef Aguerd landed in the back of the net to reduce the gap just before half time.
It took Morocco’s own to concede a goal at the World Cup so far.
Despite their hard work and some promising build-up play, Canada were not able to trouble Yassine Bounou.
