FUFA suspends Referees Kalibbala and Mutonyi

The Federation of Uganda Football Association [FUFA] has suspended referees Jane Mutonyi and John Bosco Kalibbala for 3 months. The FUFA Referees disciplinary committee has suspended the two match officials for failing to justify some decisions in the Uganda Premier League game between Gaddafi FC and Onduparaka FC last month.

The two officials are suspended from officiating football at all levels for over 120 days effective 1st February 2022. Both the Centre Referee and linesman failed to justify their respective decisions of ordering for the retake of a penalty.

According to FUFA, the matter has also been forwarded to the FUFA Investigation Chamber of the Ethics Committee to further investigate whether the incorrect decisions were intended to pre-determine the results of the match contrary to the FUFA Ethics Code.

Kalibbala and Mutonyi are not the first referees to be suspended by FUFA, last year in October, the FUFA Disciplinary Committee suspended Referee Ronald Kirangwa over an incident in the UPL fixture between Vipers and Wakiso Giants.

During the match, Wakiso Giants goalkeeper Samson Kirya fouled Vipers winger Ibrahim Orit in the 83rd minute.

In what looked like a red card offence after Kirya was denied a clear goal-scoring opportunity, referee Kirangwa refused to send off Samson Kirya the goalkeeper.
