In-form Brentford striker Ivan Toney will have to wait a while longer for his England debut, Pulse Sports Nigeria can report.

Toney has been omitted from the England squad to face Italy in the Nations League later tonight.

According to the Mirror, Gareth Southgate has named a 23-man team for the super clash with Toney and five others missing.

The 26-year-old was rewarded for his superb form for Brentford in the Premier League this season with a maiden invitation to the national team.

However, he will have to wait to get on the pitch and cheer from the stands when they take on the Azzurri.

Meanwhile, the Brentford leading man is not the only prominent omission from the squad to face Italy.

There are four other players left out by Southgate, Crystal Palace sensational defender, Marc Guehi, Ben Chilwell of Chelsea and Liverpool’s captain Jordan Henderson.

Manchester City defender, John Stones, is the other player who will not be in the squad to battle Italy tonight. The 28-year-old is suspended for the tie after the red card he picked up against Hungary the last time.

All five of them will be hoping to make the team when England takes to the pitch again next Monday against Germany at Wembley.
