Croatia beat Brazil 4-2 on penalties to storm World Cup semi-finals
Croatia have pulled off a shocking upset dumping pre-tournament Brazil 4-2 on penalties to go through to the semi-finals of the World Cup.
Facing a difficult team to break, it took Brazil up to extra-time to find a breakthrough against Croatia in the World Cup quarterfinals on Friday evening.
Playing with greater urgency to find a result in the 90 minutes, Brazil couldn’t beat Dominik Livakovic who was in fine form for Croatia, denying Richarlison, Vinicius Jr, Neymar and Lucas Paqueta in normal time before extra time.
However, Brazil finally found a breakthrough in extra time.
Combining greatly with teammates, Neymar rounded Livakovic to find the back of the net. The Brazil star scored a sensational goal with a very beautiful build-up playing a sharp one two with Pedro before rounding Livakovic and firing the ball into the roof of the net.
The goal hoists Neymar level with legend Pele on 77 goals for his country.
However, Croatia responded fast with an equalizer frustrating Brazil via the spot kicks.
