Fresh from winning their maiden CECAFA trophy on home soil, Uganda will kick off its campaign on Sunday as they taken on Senegal.
Crested Cranes return to Afcon after 22 years
The long wait is over. Uganda women’s senior national team, the Crested Cranes are back to continental football after 22 years.
The Crested Cranes are pooled in group A alongside hosts Morocco, Burkina Faso and Senegal. Uganda’s maiden appearance at the tournament came in 2000.
Uganda was handed automatic qualification to the Afcon after Kenya failed to play its second-round match due to FIFA suspension.
Fufa president Moses Magogo says the spirit in the Crested Cranes camp is very high.
“As the #TotalEnergiesWAFCON2022 gets underway today, I am glad to say that the Crested Cranes spirit in camp are high and the girls are very well motivated to represent the over 40millions Ugandans with even the last pint of their energy”, he noted after addressing the girls yesterday.
The team had a familiarization tour of the Prince Moulay Abdellah Sports Complex, venue for the first 2 group games.
Hosts Morocco take on Burkina Faso tonight in the opening match of the tournament.
