For lack of a better word and the sake of national pride, let’s call these football venues stadiums and they could host Afcon in 2027.

Afcon 2027 bid could see a major facelift of sports facilities

Plans are underway for Uganda to host the Africa Cup of Nations in 2027. National Council of Sports, General Secretary Dr Bernard Patrick Ogwel made the revelation while speaking on NBS TV. He said the president has 'informally' requested the NCS to look into the issue of hosting the Africa Cup of Nations in 2027.

NCS is mandated to build, promote and develop sports in Uganda.

"President Museveni has informally requested us to look into the issue of Uganda hosting the African Cup of nations for 2027, this shows the strides we are taking in sports", he said.

While the public were taking the allegations lightly, Fufa president Moses Magogo has revealed that the matter is now before the speaker of parliament, Anita Among.

While speaking on FUFA Radio, he revealed that the president proposed that Uganda joins forces with Tanzania to make a joint bid.

“The speaker informed us that the president accepted Uganda to make a bid to co-host the 2027 African Cup of Nation with Tanzania, this is a huge development,” Magogo said.

On the issue of the lack of sports infrastructure in the country, Magogo said with co-hosting, Uganda needs at least 3 stadiums while Tanzania also needs the same number to present a bid.

“In brief, we already have the budget to redevelop Namboole, Kitende is already available, you can also see that Buhinga and Aki Bua stadiums will also be redeveloped and then of course, we expect another infrastructure to be put up,” Magogo said.

Going forward, the country might see several construction projects in preparation for the bid.
