Casemiro strikes late to send Brazil to last 16

Casemiro made the difference as Brazil struck in the 83rd minute to earn a 1-0 win over Switzerland.

Brazil defeated  Switzerland 1-0 to advance to the next round

Brazil now have maximum points from the opening two matches and have qualified for the last 16.

Vinicius Jr had found the back of net in the 64th minute slotting a neat finish that beat Yan Sommer. However, VAR ruled it for offside in the build-up to the goal.

Switzerland kept Brazil at bay till the late stages with both sides hardly creating clear cut chances to find the back of the net.

The Brazilians played with more intent to secure their progress in the global tournament and Tite introduced Gabriel Jesus and Anthony to beef up the search for goal in the later stages.

The introduction of fresh legs stretched the Swiss defence on the left flank opening up play. A clever link up from Vinicius Jnr to Rodrigo and finally to Casemiro made the difference. The Manchester United star wonderful curled the ball past the defender beyond Yan Sommer to the far post and it was enough to seal matters.

Brazil now with six points look to top the group as they face Cameroon which has one point. Serbia also with a point with square with Switzerland in battle for qualification to the next round.

Technically, Cameroon, Switzerland and Serbia all have chances to qualify to the next round. Cameroon must beat Brazil while Serbia must beat Switzerland to progress.
