FUFA says Isabirye witnessed the incident when Abraham Luzzi and James Kaweesa tried to manipulate Jackson Kigozi, who is Five Stars’ goalkeeper, into a situation that would favor the final results of the match but which he didn’t report.

The final score was a goalless draw though Tooro United beat Five Stars in penalties 8-7.

“The FUFA Ethics and Disciplinary Committee has banned Mr. David Isabirye for two years from taking part in any kind of football activities at National and International level,” a statement from FUFA read.

“Mr. Isabirye breached Article 31 of the FUFA Ethics and Disciplinary Code after failing to report the illegal incident where Mr. Abraham Luzzi and Mr. James Kaweesa approached a player to influence and manipulate the result of the Uganda Cup match between Five Stars FC and Tooro United FC.” The statement added.

According to journalist Isabirye, he says he got to know about this misconduct when the duo was arrested and detained at a police post located in Abayita Ababili.

“I had no idea about the incident till when Luzzi and Kaweesa were arrested at the Abayita Ababili Police Post which nears my home and that was before match day,” said Isabirye in a radio interview with Sanyu FM.

Isabirye said he got to know about Kaweesa’s actions of wanting to manipulate goalkeeper Jackson Kigozi and all the details through audio notes that were circulating in several whatsapp groups.

At the end of the match, Isabirye submitted his report and mentioned about the incident but FUFA’s disciplinary committee said this wasn’t enough and satisfying evidence.

Isabirye says he is not contracted with FUFA but since 2013 he has always been a contributor and volunteer to the body.

Isabirye says he can’t sit home for two years yet the country has also been on total lock down for two years and all that period sports wasn’t fully operating. He also says he has a family to look after and take care of.

Ever since FUFA banned the senior journalist, several people especially journalists have been questioning the powers and grounds on how they suspended Isabirye yet he is not a contracted employee of the football body.
