Uganda Bombers captain Joshua Tukamuhebwa wins second match at the Commonwealth Games defeating Australia’s Billy Polkinghorn

Tukamuhebwa, also known as ‘The Punisher’, served Polkinghorn, a boxing punishment to secure his second victory at the Games. The judges awarded the Ugandan boxer a 4-1 split decision win against the Australian.

The win places Tukamuhebwa is one more fight for a Commonwealth Games medal bracket if he also eliminates his next opponent in the men’s 65Kg light welter weight category.

Tukamuhebwa defeated Northern Ireland’s John Paul Hale in his opening match. He won on points 3-2, unanimous decision to take the day.

Speaking after the fight, he promised that the bombers will bring home medals.

“The fighters are up to the task and we are here to win. That is my mentality. We have to bring home the medals”, he said.

In the other matches, two bombers have been eliminated from the games.

Isaac Zebra Ssenyange and colleague Jonah Kyobe lost in their round of 32 matches in respective categories in their bouts.

Jonah Kyobe fighting in the featherweight category lost to George Mulwantwa of Botswana in a split decision. The referees awarded the Botswana national a 4-1 victory over Kyobe. His opponent, a bronze medalist at the Africa Games progresses to the next round of 16, the quarterfinal stage of the competition.

Similarly, Isaac Zebra also bowed out of the Commonwealth Games light middleweight category in the round of 32 as he lost to Arena Pakela of Lesotho. Pakela was awarded a 4-1 victory in a split decision that shattered Zebra’s dreams.
