The Briton was defeated by Ukrainian Oleksandr Usyk in Saudi Arabia by split decision. This was a rematch of last year’s bout which Joshua lost on points in September.
Emotional Anthony Joshua in tears after losing to Usyk
Anthony Joshua’s third consecutive loss, all for world titles had a huge emotional toll on him as he broke down in tears.
In his post-match press conference, Joshua covered his face with both hands in shock of the result and letting the coveted belt out of his hands. He took deep breaths and his promoter Eddie Hearn had to take some questions for him as he composed himself.
The two-time world champion noted that he was very upset.
"It's really, really hard for me to say I'm proud of myself.
"I'm upset, really, deep down in my heart."
'When you're angry you do stupid things”.
In the ring, after Usyk was declared winner, Joshua lost his cool, grabbed the mic and went on a rant about his frustrations but also payed homage to the victor of the fight and congratulated him.
"When you try and do things from your heart, not everyone is going to understand," Joshua explained.
"It was just from the heart. I knew I was mad at myself. Not at anyone, just myself. I was like I got to get out of here because I'm mad.
"When you're angry you might do stupid things. Then I realised this is sport. I came back and did the right thing."
