City Oilers overcome determined Nam Blazers to win 8th consecutive crown
Title holders City Oilers retained their National Basketball League crown for the eight straight time in the men’s finals at the MTN Arena, Lugogo on Friday.
The matched tipped off after UCU Lady Canons dethroned JKL Dolphins to comeback from 3-1 to force a game of seven series which they won 4-3. Nam Blazers like UCU Lady Dolphins shared a similar scenario having fallen 3-1 after four games and had to win game 5 and 6 to force a best of seven series. With results going in sync, the majority of fans in the packed MTN Arena hoped for Nam Blazers to carry the day and stop the dominance City Oilers has exercised over local basketball.
However, Nam Blazers fell short in the final quarter as City Oilers eclipsed them to win by a fine margin with a 66-64 scoreline to finish off 4-3 win.
Francis Azolibe scored double figures with 24 points and 12 rebounds while Tonny Drilleba scored 10 points.
Paul Odong scored 16 points, Chris Omanye and David Deng Dikong scored 12 and 11 points for Nam Blazers in their effort.
The result means City Oilers have defeated Falcons, Power (three times), KIU Titans, UCU Canons (two times)and debut finalists Nam Blazers to dominate the league.
