Returning for the first time following the two-year hiatus due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Chesang posted 1:08: 11 falling behind Kenya’s Irine Cheptai who won the women’s elite races clocking a personal best of 1:06:42.
Stella Chesang scoops bronze, smashes national record at New Delhi Half Marathon
Uganda’s Stella Chesang has scooped bronze and set a new national record at the New Delhi Half Marathon.
Cheptai dominated the race from just halfway up to the finishing line. She beat Ethiopia’s 2022 World Athletics Championships 5000m bronze medallist Dawit Seyaum to the podium by almost a minute.
In the men’s race, Uganda’s Jacob Kiplimo, who had been highly anticipated to take part in the marathon chose not to compete in the race leaving Uganda without male participate in the men’s elite race category.
Nevertheless, Regasa, Kipkoech and Diriba produced a stunning three-horse battle for the finishing line thrilling spectators globally.
Regasa sprinted away beating Felix Kipkoech and fellow Ethiopian Boki Diriba with just 400 meters to go.
Kipkeoch finished second in 1:00:33 while debutant Diriba, the 18-year-old Ethiopian U20 5000m champion, was third in 1:00:34.
