Kukundakwe adds gold medal as Abel Chebet wins 5,000m bronze in Turkey

Uganda’s paralympic swimmer Husnah Kukundakwe has added gold medal to her silver medal at the ongoing 2021 Islamic Solidarity Games held in Konya, Turkey.

Uganda is competing in athletics, archery, basketball 3x3, cycling, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, weightlifting, para swimming, judo, shooting and wrestling.

Kukundakwe won the 400m Freestyle S9 event in the ongoing Islamic Solidarity Sports Federation (ISSF) Games in Konya, Turkey on day one of the events and has now added a 200m IM Gold medal.

It was a good day in office for team Uganda as in athletics, Abel Chebet ran 13:54.94 to win a bronze medal in the men’s 5000m finals. Chebet is considered as one of Uganda’s brightest talents for the future.

At the just concluded Commonwealth Games, Kukundakwe competed in the 100m freestyle, her only event at the Games.

She competes in freestyle, butterfly and backstroke; SB8 (breaststroke) and SM9 (Individual Medley) which were reviewed at the World Para Swimming World Series 2019 in Singapore.

She recorded three personal best times in the 100m breaststroke (1:57.8), 100m freestyle (1:30.43) and 50m freestyle (40.24).

At just 14 years, she was representing the national flag at the Paralympic Games in 2000 in Sydney.

She has participated in the Singapore World Para Swimming World Series 2019 and the London 2019 World Para Swimming Allianz Championships, among other elite competitions.
