Kiplimo skips $268,000 Vedanta Delhi half marathon, Stella Chesang confirmed

World half marathon record holder Jacob Kiplimo has announced that he will not be taking part in the World Athletics elite label Vedanta Dalhi half marathon.

Slated for October 16, the 17th edition of the annual event has $268,000 prize money with Kiplimo sharing his anticipation to take part in an earlier communication last month.

“Friends of New Delhi and India I’m sorry I will not be in your country for the Vedanta Delhi half marathon. I wish to all the runners best of luck and to the race organisers and sponsors to keep that race one of the best in the world. I promise that one day I’ll run there! 𝕮𝖍𝖊𝖊𝖗𝖘 𝖋𝖗𝖔𝖒 𝕵𝖆𝖈𝖔𝖇 𝕶𝖎𝖕𝖑𝖎𝖒𝖔!”

The elite athletes confirmed for the race include two-time 5,000m world champion Muktar Edris of Ethiopia and Kenya's Felix Kipkoech.

In the women’s category Stella Chesang will battle reigning world 3,000m indoor champion Lemlem Hailu of Ethiopia and this year's TCS World 10K Bengaluru winner Irine Cheptai of Kenya.

The fastest time in the Indian half marathon stands at 58:53 posted by Ethiopian Amedework Walelegn in 2020.

Kiplimo had shared his anticipation to break the record but now, that won’t be case.

"I have been told that the Vedanta Delhi Half Marathon course is a quick one and the record "I had a successful track season, although I would have liked to have done a little better at the World Championships. But I have not raced too much this year, so I am still fresh and I want to show the people of Delhi and India what I am capable of”, he told World Athletics.
