Jacob Kiplimo wins 5,000m gold at Commonwealth Games

Uganda’s Jacob Kiplimo has completed the 5,000m and 10,000m gold medal victory at the 2022 Commonwealth Games.

Jacob Kiplimo

Kiplimo bagged his second gold medal at the Commonwealth Games winning the 5,000m finals in fascinating fashion. Now, a double champion, Kiplimo clocked a time of 13.08.08 to eclipse Kenyan duo of Nicholas Kipkorir Kimeli and Jacob Krop who settled for silver and bronze respectively.

In a terrific homestretch, Kiplimo out-muscled the Kenyan duo who seemed destined for 1-2 finish. The race went to the wire with Kiplimo taking on the Kenyans in a photo-finish.

The victory makes him the third Ugandan to win both the 5,000m and 10,000 finals after Moses Kipsiro and Joshua Cheptegei. Only four athletes in history have achieved this feat in a single edition of the games.

The victory continues his fine form in the international calendar following his bronze medal at the World Athletics Championships and the 2021 Tokyo Olympics.
