Boris Johnson’s Brexit Minister Resigns

United Kingdom Prime Minister Boris Johnson's government continues to lose its once sure-footed standing as it takes in yet another shock.

Lord Frost

The British Brexit Minister David Frost has resigned, he says he is disappointed and dismayed at how Boris Johnson’s government is running the country’s affairs.

This resignation hits the government hard in the solar plexus as embattled prime minister Johnson tries to cope with the Omicron variant of Covid-19 which is looming large over the country.

As Frost, a key mover of Johnson’s stormy Brexit strategy, resigns his departure will raise issues regarding Britain’s departure from the European Union and questions concerning what shall now be the direction of talks on Northern Ireland.

This resignation has also thrown Johnson’s Conservative government into the troubled waters of a government in turmoil.

However, Frost says Brexit is not going anywhere and he is confident it will remain on course. His main concern, he says, is about the government’s current state of affairs with respect to Johnson’s new Covid-19 restrictions. Frost is also concerned by tax rises and the cost of environmental policies.

“You know my concerns about the current direction of travel,” Frost told Johnson in a letter released by Downing Street.

“I hope we will move as fast as possible to where we need to get to: a lightly regulated, low tax, entrepreneurial economy, at the cutting edge of modern science and economic change.”

Frost was originally set to resign in January, but after his intentions to resign were leaked it was agreed between him and the Prime Minister that his resignation should take immediate effect.

“We also need to learn to live with Covid,” Frost said. “I hope we can get back on track soon and not be tempted by the kind of coercive measures we have seen elsewhere.”

Johnson said Frost’s resignation was regrettable, but he would accept it.
