Biden warns of “Winter of Death” for unvaccinated Americans

Horror looms as US President Joe Biden warned a "winter of severe illness and death" for those unvaccinated against Covid-19.

Adding to this Grinch-like message, the Group of Seven (G7), which is an intergovernmental organization made up of the world's largest developed economies: France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United States, the United Kingdom, and Canada, called the Omicron variant the biggest threat to global public health.

Against these blood-curdling words, Britain experienced a spike in its Covid-19 cases with more than 88,000 new infections.

In response to this grim picture, France imposed "drastic" new travel limits to the United Kingdom.

There is plenty of panic instead of Christmas cheer in the air even though scientists have not managed to put a finger on exactly how dangerous the highly mutated Omicron variant is, but preliminary information indicates that it is more resistant to vaccines and is more transmissible than the Delta variant.

The World Health Organization chimed in by saying the new strain has already been reported in 77 countries and is spreading fast.

The G7 on Thursday called for concerted effort to combat this aggressive strain and emphasized the "increasing importance of booster campaigns and regular testing.”

President Biden called upon Americans who have already had two shots to get boosters, and those who have not been vaccinated to step up and get their jab.

"The only real protection is to get your shot," he said.

In related news, Biden’s popularity is plummeting fast with a CNN poll giving 45 percent and thus indicating an 11 point drop from roughly 56 percent after his first 100 days in office.

The pandemic might have something to do with this as one observer said, “voters seem to reward presidents for presiding over peace and prosperity—in a word, normalcy.”

Yet there is nothing normal about a “winter of death” as Americans brace themselves for possibly the worst Christmas since Pearl Harbor which occurred on December 7, 1941, when Japan staged a surprise attack on Pearl Harbor, decimating the US Pacific Fleet. In total, 2,403 Americans died in the attack.

With Covid-19, that figure could be far higher.
