Uganda to experience heavy rains for 3 months, experts warn
The Uganda National Meteorological Authority (UNMA) has warned that most parts of Uganda will experience heavy rains for at least three months (March – May).

“Overall, during, March, April and May 2023, the country is expected to experience near normal (near average) rainfall over several parts of the country. However, some parts of southwestern, central and Victoria basin are expected to receive near normal (near average) to above normal (enhanced rainfall),” UNMA’s outlook reads.
The onset of the seasonal rains is expected around mid-March in several parts of the southern sector of the country (Southwestern, Central and Victoria Basin), whereas in the northern parts of the country, it is expected from around late March to early April.
UNMA warned that the rains are likely to come with thunderstorms associated with strong winds, lightening and hailstorms in different parts of the country. Landslides are also expected in some parts of the country such as Bududa.
Farmers have been advised to finalise the preparation of their lands and planting in order to optimise on the available water.

The warning comes after Kampala experienced heavy rains yesterday which led to the flooding of some parts of the city. People were seen in the city being carried to work to avoid water splashing on them and roads blocked because of flooding.
