The campaign is aimed at giving an opportunity to Ugandans to appreciate the various tourist attractions in the Elgon region which will include Wanale Hill, Sipi Falls, and several others in Mbale, among others.
Tourism entrepreneur and CEO of Great Lakes Safaris Amos Wekesa has welcomed the drive noting that it will go a long way in enabling Ugandans to appreciate the tourism wealth in the region and also see investment opportunities.
“The drive is going to help Ugandans to appreciate the tourism wealth in the Gishu-region. The area is gifted with quite a number of tourism features,” he said.
The drive comes at a time Christmas Holidays have kicked off.
Domestic tourism has for long lagged behind. This been partly because of Ugandan’s view towards it.
Wekesa said some people (Ugandans) think it’s very expensive for them to tour places here.
“Prices for domestic tours by Ugandans are considerate and in most cases in Ugandan currency. People should come and see how beautiful their country is,” he said.
Different initiatives have been put in place by both the tourism ministry and Uganda Tourism Board. These include: The Tulambule campaign, adverts on international media such as CNN and employing artists and other celebrities as ambassadors among others.
