This attack happened on Friday night, usually a time that felines prefer to hunt, when an unspecified number of lions struck.
Andrew Longole, whose cows were victims of the lions, said the animals came in the night and killed his five cows in a kraal along the road of Namalu-Nakapiripirit town.
As an eyewitness, Longole said he saw the lions kill his cows, then slowly walk away after eating to their fill.
An agitated Longole reported the case to the Wildlife Authorities Office in Pian Upe game reserve, he is still awaiting action to be taken. This loss, he says, adds to other cows of his that were previously stolen by rustlers.
Several residents have called on the wildlife authorities to take immediate action before the lions expand their diet to eating humans.
However, Paul Lokol, the chairperson of Wildlife Management, says the lions rarely target people. Nonetheless, they often wander near human settlements as these are areas which are circumjacent to rivers where the lions always go in search of water.
According to Lokol, the locals should always report cases of wildlife attacks in time in order to forestall any loss of life or property.
Echodu Edyau, the warden in charge of the Pian Upe Game reserve, was unavailable for comment on this matter but is expected to apprise locals on the way forward today.
