This was revealed as Police Spokesperson, Mr. Fred Enanga was addressing journalists at the Naguru police headquarters this morning.
Police officers conned
Two police officers have reportedly been conned Shs600,000 each over fake passports and a training deal.
Accordingly, Enanga advised Ugandans to be wary of confidence tricksters so that the same fate does not befall them as it did the “one or two officers who had fallen victim.”
Allegedly, according to Mr. Enanga, the conmen pretended to be Uganda Police directors based in at the Uganda police’s headquarters while using a landline similar to the one used by the police force.
While posing as police personnel, the conmen asked for Shs. 600,000 from the two policemen they duped. This money, they said, would secure express passports for the two police personnel in preparation for a non-existent leadership course in Switzerland.
"We have received complaints from people who are receiving calls or text messages from fraudsters who claim to be employers, like some of our security officers, have fallen victim where somebody uses a landline that's similar to some of those that we have and then portrays himself as a director and once he establishes that the officer he's talking to doesn't have a passport, he puts up a request of about Shs600,000 to process an express passport for the officer so that they can travel to Switzerland in January for a leadership course organized by the Swiss police," Mr. Enanga said.
