Opondo, the Executive Director of the Uganda Media Center, erupted into fiery words and fists as he attacked Lukwago on Thursday night during the weekly talk show Frontline.
Opondo must pay for his criminal behaviour - Besigye says about Lukwago's assault
Four-time presidential candidate and leader of the Peoples' Front for Transition (PFT) Dr. Kizza Besigye has blamed NBS TV management for not protecting the Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago from the alleged assault he suffered at the hands of Ofwono Opondo.
“It’s sad that the media house can’t secure their guests. They’ll be held responsible for all the trauma and damage suffered by the Lord Mayor of our Capital City,” Besigye charged.
As Besigye shared the video clip of the alleged assault, he then added, “I hope that the full clip consisting of Ofwono Opondo’s criminal behaviour will be made available by @nbstv , so that he can be made to “pay” for his crimes and the record of his disgraceful behaviour kept for future generations to see.”
As Opondo lost his nerve, former Leader of the Opposition in parliament and current Alliance for National Transformation (ANT) member Winifred Kiiza, National Resistance Movement spokesperson Dr. Chris Baryomunsi and the moderator of the show, Charles Mwanguhya, looked on in shock.
Before the show could take a violent turn towards WrestleMania, the show was taken off the air.
NBS TV aplogises
NBS TV was apologetic about the altercation between Lukwago and Opondo.
“A debate, unfortunately, went out of hand on #NBSFrontline this evening, leading to its premature end. Thankfully, our Production team’s quick action relatively minimized the impact on and off air. All our guests safely left the Park. Apologies for all inconvenience,” NBS TV tweeted.
It is still unclear whether NBS TV management will take disciplinary action against Opondo.
