The incident sparked off controversy when it was captured on social media appearing to ridicule the priest, Fr. Eugene Safari, who was the guest of honour at the mass celebration yesterday.
Uganda Police on the spot again
The Uganda Police has once again been put on the spot to explain why a police constable deployed to provide security services at Mother Kevin College Mabira in Buikwe district opted to act as a personal bodyguard to the priest during a recent mass celebration.
The school administration is now demanding an apology from the Police.
"Mother Kevin College Mabira requested the OC Lugazi Police station to provide security during the official opening of the school. Security was given roles such as managing traffic flow and ensuring that both Ebola and COVID SOPs are respected," John Charles Ongole, the school's spokesperson, said.
The video of the priest that went viral on social media caused an uproar among the public which has prompted the school administration to seek answers and demand an apology from the Uganda Police.
"We therefore demand that the Police explain why the police constable chose to join the masses. He had been given other duties," Ongole said, adding that, "we demand an apology from the Uganda Police."
The Uganda Police has on several occasions found itself at the center of controversy, including the brutal torture of Ugandans protesting peacefully. Efforts to reach the Lugazi area OC were futile as her know numbers were off by press time.
