Nansana teenager dumps six-weeks-old baby in latrine, claims kidnapping
Police has arrested a 15-year-old teenage mother for the murder of her six weeks old son. The teenager fabricated a story for the child's disappearance which prompted neighbours to launch a search.
In a statement from police, police spokesperson, Fred Enanga said that Nalumansi faked the disappearance of the baby saying she had left him on the veranda.
"The local members of the community conducted a search in vain and reported the matter to police. It was at around 7:30pm that a group of concerned residents, reported seeing the victim’s clothes in a latrine," explained Enanga.
Police was called and the body of the deceased baby was retrieved on November 12.
At this point, the teen mother admitted to having dumped the baby in the latrine after the father declined responsibility.
'Victim turned suspect'
Police report from the investigation indicate that victim turned suspect was defiled and impregnated putting a stop to her education in Primary seven. After delivery, the baby was rejected by the father who claimed he wanted DNA proof.
A separate case of aggravated defilement has been opened against the alleged defiler.
Meanwhile, the suspect is to be tried under the juvenile criminal system.
Enanga cautioned young parents experiencing difficulty against harming their children. That they will not be spared by the law.
“All teen mothers experiencing challenges are advised to seek help from a number of shelter and babies’ homes,” he said.
He blamed a lack of nurturing and protection for young girls that makes them susceptible to sexual abuse.
