The court heard that on November 3, 2022, Mugabi willingly and unlawfully damaged an A2 framed photo of General Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, the President of Uganda.
Mugabi was immediately apprehended at the Uganda Broadcasting Corporation (UBC) building in Kampala Central Divisio where he caused damages.
Mugabi is battling one count of malicious damage after he was charged last week.
According to prosecution, the photo that was damaged was valued at Shs300,000. It was the property of one Moses Daki who deals in photo frames in the city.
The prosecution, led by State Attorney Lydia Nakato asked court to set a trial date saying that investigations into the case are complete.
Mugabi, a resident of Nankuwadde Bulenga, Wakiso District, maintains that he is innocent.
The presiding Grade One Magistrate, Siena Owomugisha set the trial for end of this month. In the mean time, Mugabi has been sent back to Luzira prison.
He is looking at prison time of up to five years.
According to the Penal Code Act of Uganda, any person who wilfully and unlawfully destroys or damages any property commits an offense and is liable to five years in prison if found guilty.
