His death is shrouded in mystery, with the cause of his passing being unknown to the authorities, even as rumours and suppositions swirl around what happened to him.
He was fine
The National Unity Platform (NUP), Secretary General, Lewis Rubongoya said he had met with the late Jakana on Saturday and he was “fine”.
“The family says he was found dead at his home, a few days after he was released from prison. I spoke to him Saturday and he sounded fine,” Rubongoya tweeted.
Details about the death of Jakana are, as said earlier, sketchy. However, he was known to be a staunch government critic and so some people believe his death was linked to his supposedly virulent outspokenness against government.
Political
Jakana was a vibrant political activist and contestant for Nakaseke Central Member of Parliament seat in 2021 elections, he was released last month on bail, only days after he was arrested on charges of promoting sectarianism.
He had previously gone missing for several days and it was reported he had been picked up by security agencies, however police later opened up about Jakana’s disappearance.
In this event, police spokesperson, Fred Enanga, said he had already been arraigned in court where he pleaded guilty to charges of promoting sectarianism contrary to section 41 of the Penal Code Act and remanded to Butuntumula prison.
However, upon return to court, he changed his plea to deny the charges and was then released on bail.
