According to police reports, Kakooza and his family and a driver were staying at Gipir and Labongo Safari Lodge, located along the bank of River Nile in Pakwach town council.
Police spokesperson for West Nile Josephine Angucia says that Kakooza ended up being swept away by the Nile waters when he tried to rescue his son, only identified as Lucas.
Lucas was reportedly overwhelmed by the strong waves of the River Nile while swimming. The son was, however, saved by another swimmer who happened to be on site. Tragically, the same could not be said about Kakooza, who was swept away by the torrential waters.
The deceased, who was born in the Mpigi district, Nkozi, has been living and working in the United Kingdom for the past 20 years. He was reportedly in Uganda on his honeymoon when the unfortunate incident occurred.
Grand Wedding
Kakooza had just married Justine Nabwami in a grand wedding where Eddy Kenzo, Spice Diana, Rema, Maddox Ssematimba and many other celebrity musicians performed.
River Nile
It is also called the Albert Nile or the Mobutu Nile, the upper Nile River is found in north-western Uganda. The Albert Nile flows from the north end of Lake Albert, just north of the mouth of the Victoria Nile. It flows 130 miles (210 km) north past Pakwach to the South Sudanese border at Nimule, where it becomes the Al-Jabal River, or Mountain Nile. The average depth of the Nile River is between 26 and 36 feet. The Nile River at its widest point is 1.7 miles wide.
