President Trump's social media company begins process to challenge Netflix

Former President Donald Trump's media company has begun hiring staff for its video streaming platform as it seeks to build a challenger to the now woke mainstream providers such as Netflix, Hulu and Disney+.

President Trump

On Wednesday this week, the Trump Media and Technology Group (TMTG) announced in the recruitment ads that it was seeking a content buyer and a development manager to create programming for its TMTG+ service.

This follows Trump's efforts to create an alternative social media company to rival Facebook and Twitter, which have been viewed by many as unfriendly to conservative voices in America. Trump was booted off Twitter and Facebook in January 2021 for what they claimed was inciting violence over the questionable presidential election of 2020 and that is when he started building an alternative to the highly censorious traditional ones.

The just-opened Truth Social has been the most download app on Applestore for several weeks now after it was launched in January. Recently, Trump started posting on the highly growing platform. Now news coming in shows that he is creating a streaming platform, TMTG+ to compete with Netflix and other streaming services that have tended to only produce shows for one side of the cultural divide.

For instance, you would be hard-pressed to find a show without homosexuality and LGBTQ issues, yet there are people (conservatives) who just want good old family-friendly content.

The advert suggests TMTG+ will offer a wide range of programs - some original and some bought in - much like other existing platforms.

"Trump Media & Technology Group's streaming video on-demand service will be a “Big Tent” platform offering broad-based entertainment rooted in free speech," it says.

"In addition to the social media platform Truth Social, our SVOD platform TMTG+ will be the home for a wide variety of non-scripted, scripted, and original content."

The content development manager will work on development, casting and pilots.

"The role will generate and develop internal concepts for original unscripted content, short form series episodes and specials," says the ad.

"Our ideal candidate will be able to establish priorities and multi-task efficiently within a fast-paced environment while meeting strict deadlines."

Little more is known about the platform's plans, such as launch date or planned titles.

The company website offers more details on how it plans to offer itself as a conservative-friendly service.

'TMTG+ is an on-demand streaming service that will provide news, big-tent entertainment, exciting documentaries, sports programming, and more,' the company says.

'The American public is seeking "non-woke" entertainment, and TMTG+ will provide content for all to enjoy.'

This effort is one of a few that have come up to tell stories that are not being told by Hollywood, including one media company called Daily Wire which has started doing movies and TV shows and Children's books that stay away from social justice talking points like gay rights and transgender agendas.
