How men should avoid razor bumps

When some guys see a beard coming they go, “argh ,not again.”Others ignore it and go around with bushy faces just because shaving brings to mind the cuts and nicks that lead to razor bumps. Actually, shaving shouldn’t be a big problem once you learn how to prevent the razor bumps.

Razor Bumps

Here's how:

Firstly, razor bumps are often caused by freshly shaven hair that has been cut at an angle thus rendering it more “sharp” when it curls back against the skin, penetrating it and causing the body to react by treating it like an infection causing painful swellings and bumps.

Here's how you can prevent them:

Use shaving oil.

Apply the oil first before shaving cream or gel.It acts as a barrier so the razor will glide easier on the skin instead of dragging and angling the hair. This oil also replenishes moisture lost from shaving, it also removes irritation.

Try using a comb first.

If the hair is long, use a small comb and comb it out first. This helps to lift the hair up so you get a closer shave and cut the hair more bluntly, instead of at an angle. We want to avoid the sharp tips of angles which make hair piercing and growing into skin a lot easier.

Use after shave lotion.

Shaving in itself exfoliates the skin so it needs to be nourished and protected afterwards. The alcohol found in most aftershaves helps to kill bacteria, but does nothing to moisturize the skin.So you can apply a milk or honey lotion 45 minutes after applying the aftershave. If you cannot afford an aftershave, you can use spirit to act as an aftershave.

Stick Shavers.

If you use a stick shaver, apply a warm wet cloth around the area selected for shaving.Depending on the coarseness of the hair, you may need to re-soak the cloth in warm water and apply it again. The warm water helps to soften the hair so that it's easier to cut.

Read the labels of shaving creams and gels.

Many shaving creams and gels are made cheaply with ingredients that can dry out the skin like sodium lauryl sulfate and alcohol. So read labels and steer clear of those ingredients that don’t agree with your skin because dry skin makes a happy ground for bumps and ingrown hairs. Not to mention dull and dry skin.

Not Advisable.

Using razor blades is not advisable because the chances of cutting the skin are very high while using them.

When I cut myself, how can I stop the bleeding and not get scars on my face?

Put an alcoholic perfume or spray on a cotton swab and press it on the cut until the bleeding stops or tear a small piece of tissue and place it on the cut. Placing a small amount of petroleum jelly on a cut after most of the bleeding has ended can stop the bleeding without forming a scab. You may apply spirit, but do not tamper with the wound after applying it. Let it dry and the head will fall off without leaving a scar.
