Football journalist Usher Komugisha to cover world cup for Al Jazeera

Seasoned Ugandan sports journalist Usher Komugisha has taken yet another career leap as she will be covering this year’s FIFA World Cup for global media powerhouse, Al Jazeera.

Her new role will involve her conducting exclusive interviews with the world’s crème of professional football, a glimpse of the behind the scenes at coverage of proceedings and breaking news.

Usher personally made this announcement on her verified Twitter handle to her 73,000 followers.

“Excited to announce that I will be covering this year’s FIFA World Cup for Al Jazeera. Expect exclusive interviews with the world’s best players, behind-the-scenes coverage and breaking news from the entire team. Join us,” she tweeted.

Usher Komugisha has forged herself an admirable career in sports journalism and has been one of the country’s most outstanding sports correspondents.

She has produced content for global sports powerhouses such as SuperSport, BBC, ESPN, AL Jazeera and Sky Sports.

She has won multiple awards both domestically and continentally.

She is also a former athlete who played basketball, rugby, volleyball, golf and was a very active athlete on track.

A year ago, Usher made history when she commentated the opening game of the Basketball Africa League (BAL) Season One and hosted the Medal Ceremony after the final. The BAL is a new professional league organized by the NBA (its first outside of North America) and FIBA.

According to her twitter grid and picture posted, Usher is already in Al Jazeera’s studios in Doha, Qatar and we can only wish her the very best.
