Ugandan vlogger wins millions of followers recording videos of rural life in China

29-year-old Rose Adikini has won over 10 million followers on China's TikTok, Douyin, since she posted her first video showing delectable dishes, lifestyle and countryside scenery in the neighbourhood of Yecun Village in Suichang County, Lishui City East China's Zhejiang Province.

He videos feature her showing the whole cooking process from the garden to the dining table. She makes authentic Chinese dishes from Peking Duck, hot pot and soup dumplings. She also shares clips of her interactions with her family and neighbours speaking flawless Mandarin.

Her videos have got positive feedback from her followers with some saying: "It seems as if Rose is a local woman." "From her videos, we enjoy the beauty of life, appreciate the delicacies, and learn how to cook."

Born and raised in the countryside in Uganda, she relocated to China eight years ago after she met her now husband, Wu Jianyun. The two were introduced through Wu's cousin who was working in Uganda at the time. They hit it off well and soon Adikini made the decision to move to China. The two fell in love, got married and decided to set up a family in Wu's village Yecun.

Although she had a rough start with communication and being away from her husband, who had to travel to the city for work, Adikini's bright personality shone through and won her friends in the neighbourhood. She gradually became fluent in Chinese and picked up cooking skills from he husband.

When their son was born, she quickly took up preparing him different foods which vastly improved her culinary skills. By the time China's short video market exploded, she had adjusted to her life in rural China and decided to take her cooking and lifestyle online.

"This is my ideal way of living, the family staying together and our son growing up healthy and happy," she said.

Currently, she has a filming crew of five, and support from Wu who left the city to join her in making the videos.
