As fuel prices bite, driving to Jinja has never been so much fun

Fuel prices passed the shs 6,000 mark at some stations in the country last week and now motorists are shunning the road more than ever. That should be the only explanation for why Uganda's busiest Highway, Jinja road, is no longer crowded on the last weekend of the month.

The native beauty of Jinja was spellbinding

While JInja road is the country's number one import and export route, it also happens to be the road to one of the most popular weekend getaways for Kampala city dwellers; Jinja town and the countless hospitality places along the first several kilometers of the Nile.

That is what makes Jinja road the busiest highway in the country, and this has historically been more apparent during the last weekend of every month when most people have been paid and want to leave town for some fresh air.

But gone are the days when traffic jam on JInja road was insufferable. The reduced traffic makes it almost a smooth sail from Kampala to Jinja and back these days, as I found out on Saturday June 25.

Remember to thank God that you can still afford to drive to Jinja in these hard times.

Upon arrival in Jinja town, you may be tempted to stick to the source of the Nile but don't give in. Jinja town offers endless activities to make your weekend unforgettable. You could quad bike through the lash villages the East, you could try out bungee jumping, or you could even opt to flow with the wild waters of the Nile by going rafting.
