Its the rainy season and a night out can easily be ruined by the biting cold or the winds from the drizzles.
Dressing for warmth and comfort does not have to be a mess. In this feature, we bring you tips on how you can layer up your look, feel good and stay comfy even when the night gets chilly.
1. Know your body
Before you start picking out your outfit, you need to know your body type and shape. A well layered look complements the body and creates an illusion of a more proportional silhouette.
It is also important to know your best asset on the body in order to know which strengths to highlight.
2.Proportion
Proportion and balance are very important while layering. Do not swamp the body, do not add bulk. The ultimate end goal of layering is to make you look slimmer. If one end of your look is wider or baggy, keep the other end narrow. Dress in halves if you are short and in thirds if you are tall.
3. Get creative with color
Wear one color from head to toe creates the canvas (first layer) from which you can start layering.
From there, you can start breaking the look by adding accessories in complementary colors, prints and textures.
-Tone on tone dressing: This means wearing a variety of shades and tones of the very same color. This has the same effect as the former.
-Alternatively, you can try complementary colors such as black and white, pink and orange and cobalt blue.
4. Prints and patterns
Do not shy away from merging prints and patterns.
Mix spots with stripes, stripes with florals, graphic patterns and spots, and so forth.
5.Textures
If you want to layer like a pro, incorporate a mix of materials. Wearing the same texture of materials will make you look like a novice, heavy and shady.
Create a mixture of rough with smooth, matte with glossy, light and dark and so forth.
6. Strategic use of accessories
Addition of accessories continues the multiple dimension that is supposed to come with layering.
You can use scarves, belts, necklaces, handbags and bracelets to add to the dimension of your look.
Layering is all about stacking one piece of clothing or accessory onto the other in order
to create one seamless look. You can follow the rules, and as long you know them, you can successfully break them as well.
