Uganda Cinema Night comes back this July after 2 years lockdown break

Uganda Cinema Night will be back on July 6, 2022 at the National Theatre for a monthly cinema experience.

The show is an initiative to showcase Ugandan film content to the public entertainment palette.

"We are CINEMA the only local CINEMA in Uganda screening/exhibits exclusively Ugandan films, we believe we can develop the culture and grow our local box office," is the event slogan.

Godfrey Musinguzi, organiser of the show, says that it is aimed at strengthening the cinema culture for locally made movies while promoting Ugandan movies and movie talent. He also emphasised that the platform has a significant impact for local filmmakers.

Our aim is to develop and build a strong cinema culture for Uganda, create a market for our Ugandan movies and showcase Ugandan talent and abilities,” he said.

He recalled the difficult times that the show faced due to the Covid-19 pandemic, and the huge losses that have been difficult to recover from. However, in light of the show's return, he was grateful for being able to make the comeback.

He called upon movie lovers and the public to welcome it back and embrace the experience that will be happening every second Wednesday of the month. There have been adjustments to the schedule from having it once a month to two times, however.

He pioneered the show back in 2016 kicking off with a watchlist of movies like Freedom, Rain, The Forbidden, Bed of Thrones, 94Terror, Damage, Faithful, The Torture, The Ring and Veronica's Wish.

He is a festival director and programmes director at Kampala Film Development Foundation which organises the Film and Cultural Week Festival. He is an actor and vice president of Film Club Uganda at the National Theatre.
