Tricks for soft and silky hair

A smooth, hydrated head of hair makes you want to play with your tendrils all day long. If you're addicted to your blow dryer, flat iron, hot comb, curling and all, it’s believed that all that heat is probably causing your hair to look a little dull and not sexy.

Silky Hair

We asked hair care experts to get you to know the best tips and tricks to keeping your locks or hair touchable and soft. If you fancy your hair and you would really love to see it to its truest and silkiest potential, these are some of the tricks to use.

Only treat your ends.

In most cases, the roots of your hair are new and healthy, so they don't really need a daily dose of hair conditioner. Always apply a palmful of treatment from the middle of your hair down and distribute it with a wide good comb to make sure every strand is fully coated in a layer of moisturised bliss.

Invest in a silk pillowcase.

If you want a super easy way to smooth your strands, then you will have to switch to a silk pillowcase. Cotton absorbs moisture and will suck up all the necessary oils from your hair while you sleep. Silk on the other hand is a gentle fabric that helps to reduce friction hence less breakage.

Use a good cloth or towel to dry your hair.

In case you want to dry your hair quickly after a shower, don't be tempted to use anything that's nearer to you becauses this might cause knots and breakage. Instead get a smooth, cotton towel or shirt to squeeze out the moisture from the hair.

Color-Treated Hair.

Whenever your colored hair looks sickening, all you have to do is add more gloss with an oil treatment. This will smooth out delicate ends of the colored hair too.

Use heat to your advantage.

Get a good shower cap with hot water and wear it for 10 minutes, while the conditioner is in your hair. The cap will trap in steam that opens up hair follicles, so each strand will soak in all the good stuff your conditioner has to offer.

Try trimming your hair every 6-8 weeks.

Trimming your hair every 6-8 weeks (depending on your hairstyle) can really help the overall look of your hair and help you retain its length, if that's your thing. It will be hard for your hair to be weighed down by dull-looking dead ends and breakage.

Don't over rinse.

Fight the instinct to get super clean, after applying conditioner, rinse with cold water until your hair is slightly slippery. By leaving a bit of conditioner on your strands allows the formula to keep nourishing throughout the day

Damaged Hair

If your hair is in need of a little extra care, in your spare time wear a hair mask with oil. This solution makes it shine and strengthens it to prevent future breakage

Try as much as possible to use a low heat setting.

Too much heat from the iron will cause havoc on your hair. For a moment you will have a Kardashian glass strand look and later that heat will lead to breakage, damage, and split ends. Play with your tool to find the lowest setting you can use to get your desired look.

Comb your hair when it's wet, brush when it's dry.

You may spend hours brushing every piece of your hair when you get out of the shower, but what you're actually doing is damaging your hair. The solution is gently comb your hair when it's wet, then switch to a brush when your hair is dry.

Heat protectant sprays are required.

Believe it or not, you can still get that super-soft feel when you use hot tools every day. You have to make sure to add a healthy coating of heat protectant spray before you touch it with a wand. The spray acts like a shield for your hair, so that 300 degree piece of metal will burn the product but not your hair.
