Farting like hell? Use ginger to get rid of flatulence

Flatulence is the condition where excess gas gets collected in your digestive tract and biology dictates that you pass it come rain or shine.

Flatulence

Flatulence is a normal biological process and is something everyone experiences regularly. Some people pass wind only a few times a day, others a lot more, but the average is said to be about 5 to 15 times a day.

Where does gut gas come from? There are two ways in which the gas can get collected in your system. The first one is, swallowing air while eating, causing the oxygen and nitrogen to get in your alimentary canal. Remember your primary school science?

The second reason is during digestion, gases like hydrogen, methane or carbon dioxide are released into your gut. If the gases are produced in excess or if they aren't released for a long time, then you may even feel aches or uncomfortable.

Flatulence is linked with the kind of diet you follow. High-carb foods like beans (you can't talk about flatulence without talking about beans), cabbage, sweet potatoes, etc, or sugary fruit juices are not easily digested and can cause gases. So if you want to get rid of it, first observe and find out which food is causing you the trouble and stay away from it.

Experts advise that you should include lots of ginger in your diet to alleviate the problem. It acts as a natural carminative (an agent which helps you to get rid of flatulence). You can have some ginger and lime juice or opt for ginger tea.

Excessive flatulence can usually be controlled by making changes to your diet and lifestyle, such as:

  • avoiding foods known to cause flatulence
  • eating smaller and more frequent meals
  • eating and drinking slowly
  • exercising regularly

There are also some over-the-counter medications that can help if your flatulence is troublesome, such as charcoal tablets or simethicone.

If your flatulence is related to an underlying health problem, treating the condition may help resolve it.
