Balenciaga launches Shs6.9 million trash bag

Spanish luxury fashion house Balenciaga launched it's new hand accessory dubbed "Trash Pouch" from its Winter 2022 Collection for sale at retail price $1,790 (Shs 6.9m) on the brand websites and boutiques.

Balenciage Winter Show

The Trash Pouch design was inspired by a garbage bag but is made from high quality Calfskin leather from the drawstrings to the interior, with a glossy overlay that is typical of a garbage bag. The brand logo is subtly located on the front.

It is made in four colour blends, white and red, black, blue and black, and yellow and black.

The Trash Pouch was first showcased on the Winter 2022 show back in March 2022. It was revealed with dramatic flair as models walked down the runway in an indoor blizzard carrying the bags.

The show was dedicated to the climate change crisis and to show solidarity with Ukrainian refugees in the current Russian Invasion. It was organised by the brand Creative Designer Demna Gvasalia.

Speaking to Women’s Wear Daily, Demna said that she saw an opening to make a fashion statement (scandal) and seized it.

I couldn’t miss an opportunity to make the most expensive trash bag in the world, because who doesn’t love a fashion scandal?” Gvasalia said.

Despite being known for extravagant and eccentric accessories, this new fashion trend and cost has enraged netizens.

“High fashion is a joke at this point. Balenciaga made a ‘trash bag’ pouch going for $1790. Is this world real?”

"Balenciaga has a trash bag for sell for $1795. I think designer fashion is a morbid social experiment,"

From attacking the brand, some netizens have called out luxury fashion lovers for 'not knowing how to dress'.
