“There are challenges I face as a human rights activist, especially when challenging Museveni’s regime. Right now, I have become a target of death threats and defamation, as well the restrictions on my freedom of movement. Right now I can’t even go back to my country Uganda and move freely because I am in fear of arbitrary arrests and detention,” UpTopBoss157 reveals.
UpTopBoss157 is a highly articulate and extremely popular social media personality who lives and works in South Korea. To say he has been a thorn in the side of the regime of President Yoweri Museveni is an understatement. UpTopBoss157 is viewed by the Museveni regime as an enemy of the state. This has infringed upon not only his rights as a Ugandan, but his work as an activist too.

“That’s one of the challenges that I am facing right now. And another challenge is self-isolation from the Ugandan communities as you know this regime almost has its allies everywhere. So, at the end of the day, because you don’t know who to trust…you don’t know its allies…I cannot just go to Ugandan communities and be comfortable and feel safe,” he adds.
UpTopBoss’s self-isolation often grates upon him, making him unhappy.
“Because sometimes I feel like I want to interact with people but because you don’t know the regime you are dealing with you don’t know the government that you are challenging… there are some who are in support of it… and you cannot identify whether this person is in support of it and this person is not. So there is a way other people might see you when you are challenging the government that they are in support of. So that’s a big challenge to me. I cannot move freely or enjoy the Ugandan communities in South Korea.”
These challenges, he adds with conviction, are part of his and people’s long walk to freedom.
