UK rap group NSG is coming to Kampala

UK Afroswing Group NSG will perform in Kampala on September 3, event promoter Malembe announced Friday evening.

Malembe, which has arguably pulled off the most attended events in the recent past because of bringing highly sought-after performers -- had been teasing about an upcoming event for about a week, leaving people guessing names of popular Afrobeat and reggae dancehall singers.

Busy Signal, Pop Caan, Koshens, Burna Boy, Rema (of Nigeria) were among the predictions. Incidentally, NSG mentions were also high.

Based in East London, the British afroswing collective has what could be the only acronym with multiple meanings. NSG can be fully spelt as Non-Stop Grinding, Never Stop Growing, No Sleep Gang, New Sound Group, and Nigeria Slash Ghana -- depending on where you are or what you are feeling at the moment.

The six-man group is made up of Kruddz, OGD, Papii Abz, Dope, Mxjib, and Mojo.

The group has been together since childhood in Hackney, London, with three artistes from Nigerian heritage and the other three from Ghana.

Their first single "Whine and Kotch" was released in December 2013 and they have been dropping great songs since.

Some of their hit songs are 'Petite', ‘Ourself', 'Trust Issues', 'Yo Darlin', 'Roadblock', and 'Options' on which they feature the UK rapper Tion Wayne. In 2019, it became their first single to reach the UK Singles Chart at number 7.

They have also collaborated with the English rapper J Hus. In 2017, they released their debut mixtape, 'Grown Up'.

On June 19, 2020, NSG released their second mixtape, 'Roots'.

Their latest mini-album dubbed 'Headliner' was released on December 9, 2021 ahead of their Roots Africa Tour.

Malembe says the UK rappers will be performing at its event dubbed Malembe Block Party which will be happening for the first time in two years. The last one was held at Club Guvnor's parking lot in Industrial Area, Kampala, featuring A Pass, Big Trill, Nigeria's Joeboy and WSTRN.

The event organiser is yet to announce the venue and they could not be reached for comment.
