Azawi 'kills it' with a majestic performance at maiden concert

Singer Priscilla Zawedde, popularly known as Azawi, staged her maiden concert at Lugogo Cricket Oval and turned the whole place into a party celebrating her as Uganda’s uncrowned queen (the king is Cindy Sanyu) of music.

Azawi and Winnie Nwagi (bent over) stole the show

Azawi not only filled the venue to overflowing with fans who were delighted to be there, she threw up some of the most exhilarating performances seen in ages.

Azawi’s musical virginity, when it comes to staging concerts, was lost to a night filled with hers and other artists best musical offerings. Here, it was performances from APass, Zex Bilangilangi, Karole Kasita, Elijah Kitaka and Pia Pounds that were the icing on the cake.

Her first appearance on stage was accompanied by the pyrotechnics of a fireworks display at around 10pm, then she jumped into her 2021 hit song “My Year”.

As the adrenaline in the area went skyward, she followed this up with songs like Crazy Love, Ache For You, and Gimme.

These are all from her debut album, African Music.

Then she paid court to her label Swangz Avenue’s co-founder Benon Mugumbya by performing a Benon and Vampos classic I Know with the with two singers.

The tributes did not end there as she laid on a powerful performance in tribute to the late Radio by performing Nyubani with both Viboyo and Weasel.

These performances raised the proverbial roof but what set it ablaze was Azawi’s performance with Winnie Nwaji, the Fire Baby,

This totally “killed”, leaving revelers swooning and cheering like they were at the gates of Heaven.

This prefaced the second part of her show, which featured songs like Party Mood, Slow Dancing, Fwa Fwa and Lo Fit.

As the audience sang her songs along with her, she hit them with the “eargasm” of Majje, a collaboration she did with Fik Fameica.

It was like spiritual Viagra, sending the crowd further into a frenzy.

Azawi then slowed down the tempo to thank all those who showed up in strength for the show.

“Thank you all for coming out, thanks for the support. You guys have definitely made this my year!” Azawi said.

Azawi’s show was simply sensational, fans are now eagerly awaiting her sophomore concert.
