The album listening party was held on June 8, 2022 at Skyz where he also launched the ‘One Million Campaign’ with each unit of the album going for 1,000 Shillings. Veering off the beaten path of uploading the tracks on streaming platforms, Toniks chose to sell off his website.
Allan Toniks sells 8,000 copies on website 2 weeks after ‘Awo’ album launch
Ugandan RnB singer Allan Toniks, real name Allan Ampaire, yesterday June 22, 2022 revealed that he has sold 8,000 units off of his recent 15 track album titled “Awo”.
His decision to put the album on a website instead of mainstream music platforms has been questioned by music critics. However, the “Akahama” singer is using the album to support a cause. Proceeds from the sales will go toward fighting and building awareness around gender-based violence.
“We’re going to launch the 1 million campaign. We are going to be selling songs at 1,000 Ugandan shillings in the hope of selling 1,000,000 copies. The proceeds would go to fighting and sensitizing people against gender-based violence. It’s not only the responsibility of the ladies or women to try to find ways of tackling the issue, I think Guys should add a voice to it,” he said.
‘Awo’ has collaborations with some of the biggest artists in the country at the moment, the likes of Sheebah Karungi, Ykee Benda, Nutty Neithan, Lydia Jazmine, A Pass and Fefe Bussi. Toniks’ partners on the album, Evoke Uganda, added saying that apart from the music they are devoted to turning him into an international brand through other creative avenues.
“We released the album first on the website so that people could get familiar with it and join in the 1,000,00 campaign by buying songs and merchandise in the hopes of bettering the lives of the victims of gender based violence,“ said Jeremiah Ainebyona, the singer’s Public Relations Manager.
The campaign has billboards around town highlighting the contents of the album.
