Emirates Airlines has hitherto hired two Ugandan movies which will kickstart the programme and these are "KEMI' and "Catch Out". The two movies are productions from Samuel Saviour, Chief Executive Officer at a local film company.

“Emirates rented two of the films I worked on, that is 'KEMI' and 'Catch Out'. They put the two films onto all their planes for passengers to watch. These were produced by Aisha Kyomuhangi and Josephine Kabahuma in collaboration with my company,” Saviour said.
According to him, Airlines are critical and selective of the content they permit to air on their screens to entertain their clients. Through content agents or curators, they are able to acquire the right films for their audience and they rarely, if ever, directly purchase movies from filmmakers.
Loukman Ali's Netflix thriller "The Girl In The Yellow Jumper" will also join the burgeoning list. Ali revealed that a distribution company contacted him with the deal.
“For most of these things, you just put it out there and their people reach out to you. I was contacted by officials from a company that sells to airlines,” he said.
Savior mentioned that he is making strides to see that more Ugandan filmmakers secure such deals and urged them to venture into collaborations with airlines.
“Airlines or on flight is another channel of distribution that a few Ugandan producers have explored but if done right, it can help the producers make back some money quickly and the good thing about it is that at times you can sell to as many airlines as possible at the same time and you make plenty of money back from one film,” Savior said.
The two took the opportunity to advise the Government of Uganda, Uganda Civil Aviation and Uganda Airlines to buy more Ugandan films for passengers, saying that it will go a long way to promote film and tourism.
