Science Fiction movies are often seen as windows to the future.

The 1989 movie Back to the Future Part II, for instance, predicted waste fueled cars, video phones, personal drones, tablets, mobile payment technology, hands-free gaming consoles, biometric devices, wearable technology, smart clothing, video glasses and hoverboards in 2015.

Back then, such technologies seemed so far-fetched. Today, we take such technologies for granted.

This is what makes the upcoming sci-fi disaster movie Moonfall so intriguing.

That and the fact that it's a Roland Emmerich movie.

Oh yes, he’s co-written, directed and produced it just like he did for other cinematic classics like Universal Soldier (1992), Independence Day (1996) and Godzilla (1998), to name but three of his many hit movies.

Also, Moonfall’s celebrity-studded cast glitters with Hollywood heavyweights such as Halle Berry, Patrick Wilson, John Bradley, Michael Peña, Charlie Plummer, Kelly Yu and Donald Sutherland (Jack Bauer's dad).

Plus, it was filmed in Montreal. A city where big-budget projects such as Tom Holland’s Chaos Walking, the X-Men franchise and John Wick were filmed.

Then there’s the movie’s $140 million budget, making it more expensive than all Emmerich’s other projects and one of the most expensive movies of all time.

Moonfall is scheduled to be released in the United States on February 4, 2022, by Lionsgate.

However, we do have a plot summary:

“When the moon is knocked from orbit by an unknown force and put onto a collision course with Earth, two astronauts and a conspiracy theorist work together to attempt to avert disaster and discover that the Moon is not what it seems.”

The last six words of this plot summary feed into our sense of suspense, teasing us towards pushing a door currently marked, “pull.”

Also, there is sure to be some comic relief in a movie that teams up two astronauts and a conspiracy theorist.

To be sure, it already sounds like the beginning of a “two priests, a rabbi, and a duck walk into a bar” joke.

That’s because astronauts and conspiracy theorists are usually out of this world, but in completely different ways.

Astronauts are trained to work in space. While conspiracy theorists are usually spaced out. Most of them do not even believe the moon landing happened.

The moon landing, you ask?

Yeah, we're talking about how, on July 20, 1969, American astronauts Neil Armstrong and Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin became the first humans ever to land on the moon.

In the Moonfall, according to the trailer, the moon landing is reenacted, along with the eyerolls of the conspiracy theorist in the movie, I am sure.

Halle Berry is in this movie.

Known for being the very definition of beauty, she’s won an Emmy, a Golden Globe Award and an Academy Award for Best Actress, along with a clutch of other awards.

Donald Sutherland, Michael Peña and the rest of the cast have filmographies which will leave viewers over the moon, which is the best place to be during a Moonfall.
