Movie review: 'Uncharted'
Uncharted is a 2022 treasure hunt action-adventure from director Ruben Fleischer ( Venom, Zombieland). It is based on a video game franchise from Naughty Dog video game company. It stars Tom Holland, Mark Wahlberg and Antonio Banderas for a moment of parricide flair before he is usurped by Tati Gabrielle and Sophia Taylor Ali.
The film is an adventure in the life of Tom Holland away from his homes in Marvel. A coming of age for the young actor, the film is an initiation ceremony for Holland to the screen of urban young adults dubbed Millennials.
Two brothers Sam and Nathan Drake are separated they get caught trying to steal a treasure map to the long lost Magellan crew of Gold. While Sam holds onto fortune hunting as the last tie to their parents, Nathan holds onto him and a ring he leaves behind as good luck.
Tom is vintage bad boy Dave Franco in "Nerve" and brings emotional depth from a past of a broken family and broken promises to a present of trying to survive as a bartender in the city of New York, and learning to trust again.
In a reincarnation of his fears comes Victor Sullivan (Mark Wahlberg), Chloe Frazer (Sophia Taylor Ali) and Braddock (Tati Gabrielle) whose lives are littered with the same fears. The only difference is that now everyone has muscle (body, mind, money or weapons) to fight for the Gold they think will settle the ghosts of their individual pasts.
Beside Tom, Mark resurrects 'Jim Bennet' a character from his 2014 movie "The Gamber" in his poker face aimed solely at getting his Gold. The two fly off into the sunset, one cut loose from a toxic affair and the other with a "The One Who Got Away".
