If you enjoy the dramatic games between married couples, it's high time to buy a packet of popcorn, sit down in a nearby theater or at home and set your eyes on this movie.
Movie Review: Sixteen Rounds
While we celebrate Uganda’s first Netflix movie - Loukman Ali's "The Girl In A Yellow Jumper" - we should also keep in mind that his other short movie, "Sixteen Rounds", is a masterpiece that deserves to be recognised.
Its trailer is just an understatement, so I advise you better go full blast into it.
It's about two couples playing "tik-tak" on one another.
We thought men are wise in the field of cheating but no, the female gender will leave you in bafflement.
At the peak of her love, Captain Damba's Wife (Natasha Sinayobye) is cheating on the captain (Michael Wawuyo Jr) who is a psychotic ex-soldier.
The captain has been suspicious of her so he plays an investigative role by recording her cheating.
In anger, after what he discovers, the captain kills the wife's boyfriend by high class amputation while recording himself and hides his memory card in the sole of his shoe, which he leaves on the scene.
He is surprised that when he calls police to set his wife up as the murderer, she is not arrested and the crime scene is all clean.
He soon finds himself behind bars after the wife pays him back by handing over his memory card to the police.
Away from a back-to-back tricky plot, the Loukman chooses a rich cast that lights up the movie with suspense, betrayal, and pleasant surprise.
Natasha Sinayobye is that experienced actress that delivers her best and Michael Wawuyo Jr is another actor who, without doubt, delivers to the audience's expectation.
These two deserve recognition from Netflix as some of the best actors.
Loukman's role as a director deserves applause as well.
The way he designed his sets in blood and suspense is proof that he can execute every kind of script.
He is capable of doing justice to any Netflix project.
In fact, he is of Netflix quality and so I am not surprised that Netflix chose to screen “The Girl In The Yellow Jumper.”
The lighting and sound in “Sixteen Rounds” will make you think it is a Hollywood movie, and I am sure even Nollywood and Bollywood would get jealous over these.
If there is anything that the Museveni government should work on, it should be investing in the rapidly growing Ugandan Film Industry.
